Antalya's Yılkı Horses Viewed on Snow

Yılkı horses living in the forested areas of the high parts of Beydağları in Antalya were viewed looking for food in the wildlife, where the snow turned white.

From the western extensions of the Taurus Mountains, in the high parts of Beydağları, located within the borders of Antalya, the winter season for wildlife is again difficult. In the winter, food is left to the region for wild animals by the forest management. Yılkı Horses, which have a living area in the inner parts of the forest and whose numbers are not known exactly, were viewed while looking for food in snow-covered areas in groups of 20-25. Horses walking in herds add a different beauty to the region among the snow and trees.

Explaining that the number of Yılkı Horses per year may be more than 200-300 only in different regions of Beydağları, Yolcu said, "As the weather warms, the Yılkı Horse groups in the high parts of the forests can descend to the plains and agricultural lands when they are hungry in the winter. There are not many predators to hunt these animals directly. Only the wolves "Maybe they can hunt a limited number of young foals. So they can reproduce comfortably."

Halil İbrahim Yolcu also noted that it is a special moment to display the Yılkı Horses, which are not always encountered, and that the horses give a unique viewing pleasure with the snow.
