From the western extensions of the Taurus Mountains, in the high parts of Beydağları, located within the borders of Antalya, the winter season for wildlife is again difficult. In the winter, food is left to the region for wild animals by the forest management. Yılkı Horses, which have a living area in the inner parts of the forest and whose numbers are not known exactly, were viewed while looking for food in snow-covered areas in groups of 20-25. Horses walking in herds add a different beauty to the region among the snow and trees.
Growing Population
Akdeniz University Manavgat Vocational School, which has worked on wildlife at the Western Mediterranean Forestry Research Institute, where he worked previously. Lecturer. Member Halil İbrahim Yolcu told AA correspondent that the Yılkı Horses population of the Taurus has increased over the years.
Pointing out that the Yılkı Horse presence in the region was created by the use of machinery in agriculture and forestry, the horses, donkeys and mules that were previously used as freight animals were released on nature, and that the existence presence of the Yılkı Horse in the Taurus Mountains and Beydağları is a known fact for years.
Explaining that the number of Yılkı Horses per year may be more than 200-300 only in different regions of Beydağları, Yolcu said, "As the weather warms, the Yılkı Horse groups in the high parts of the forests can descend to the plains and agricultural lands when they are hungry in the winter. There are not many predators to hunt these animals directly. Only the wolves "Maybe they can hunt a limited number of young foals. So they can reproduce comfortably."
Halil İbrahim Yolcu also noted that it is a special moment to display the Yılkı Horses, which are not always encountered, and that the horses give a unique viewing pleasure with the snow.
